Background

A boutique Singapore law firm received instruction on a litigation matter. They had just taken over the matter from a much larger law firm and had to amend the pleadings quickly. The lawyers wanted to alleviate the manual review process in order to focus on advising the client.

Starting from their referral, it took less than two weeks to guide the associate running the review through the data upload and fully process over 15,000 pages of data. Over the following weeks, this number grew to over 20,000 pages.

The first stage of the review, which would typically have been completed by a team of lawyers and paralegals, was able to be conducted by GAO Professional Services (“GPS”) using targeted searches to establish a coherent timeline, set up relevant fields and identify further documents to request in Discovery.

The review then turned to those documents which can be used for counterclaim. After consultation with the law firm and the client, and an explanation of GPS’ capabilities, we proceeded beyond a traditional review process and used our AI and Machine Learning technology through documents provided as well as publicly available data to identify discrepancies favourable to the client that even the client was not aware of.

Once productions were run, GPS archived the data in order to minimize ongoing cost, ready to unarchive and refer back to at a moment’s notice if necessary. GPS’ technology reduced time spent on reviewing by enabling rapid culling of the data based on the powerful searching, filtering and tagging functions. This enabled the team to get results faster and feedback key insights to the client more quickly.
